FAQ

Do I need to be present at the edit?
The best way for you to ensure you end up with a product you are pleased with is for the editor to be able to work with you, on site, as your reel is being edited. We like to work closely with the actor so strongly recommend clients are present. It is not essential though.

How long should my showreel be?
We believe between 2 and 4 minutes. We have good links with a number of respected casting directors and agents and they simply don't need any more. A showreel is not an archive of your work; its purpose is not to include a little bit of everything you have done. You need to be thinking about what sells you at your best.

Have I got enough footage?
Almost certainly. We have edited many reels for actors with a limited amount of footage. You will be surprised how far it can go. As for footage you are not sure about, we will not use work that doesn't sell you well, however don't rule out footage that you currently think is unusable - it's surprising what a bit of good editing can do.

I have so much footage - where do I start?
This can be daunting but don't worry. We have edited for television regulars (1 client had eight years of potential footage) and we are more than happy to offer advice on how to go about deciding what to use.

What happens if I need more than three hours?
We complete 95% of edits within the three hour time bracket, however if for any reason you require more we charge £15 an hour with a minimum charge of £25.

I have footage on both region one and region two DVD's. Does this matter?
No, not at all.

Can I have a version to put on online?
Yes. For a very small fee we can convert your showreel into many different digital formats. Please note that different actor promotion websites ask for different formats so be sure to tell us who it is for. Some of the common requests are listed below:

Spotlight:
The showreels we produce are already in the correct format for Spotlight. Simply order an extra duplicate, fill in the spotlight interactive forms (
DOWNLOAD HERE), fill in the relevant sections and send it in.

CastNet:
CastNet states: "Actors with a showreel on the CastNet website receive, on average, four times as many casting invitations as those actors without a showreel!" For £5 we can send you exactly what you need to get your showreel uploaded. Please note showreels for CastNet must be no more than 5 Mins long. Alternatively, if you provide them with your Spotlight viewing pin, CastNet can also now display your showreel directly from The Spotlight.

Casting Call Pro:
Casting Call Pro states: "Research suggests that members with a showreel are viewed three times more often than members without a showreel."  We can convert your showreel to the correct format and upload it for you to CCP free of charge. They will then send you an email as soon as the film is live.

Do you shoot showreels from scratch?
Round Island does not shoot showreels from scratch.
HARDY HOUSE PRODUCTIONS
does provide such a service at a very competitive price.

I already have a showreel, can you duplicate it?
If you already have a showreel that you are happy with we can transfer your reel ready for duplication with us for just £5. All duplications come with cases and art work is printed directly onto the surface of the DVD.

How easy is it to get my showreel updated?
Because we archive your showreel updating it is very easy. This saves you both time and money.

Can I use music on my showreel?
Yes. The most common way of incorporating music is as part of a montage. All music must be provided by the client and obviously you should have gained the rights to use the music. Often people bring original music that musician friends have recorded for them or find appropriate music on short films they have been in as they find permission was granted very easily. Alternatively we can provide you with royalty free music or our composer can even write and record a piece especially for your reel.

What about copyright?
Clients must have copyright clearance before we edit/reproduce any of your work. Copyright is a legal right which exists in literary, dramatic, artistic and musical works. It is only necessary if you lift words or music directly from an existing piece of artistic work. In most cases, the producers of the work that you want to use will either have rights assigned to them or at least, a licence to the rights. Often original producers grant permission for you to use short clips free of charge. Under our terms and conditions you have full responsibility for clearing any copyright for material that you want edited or reproduced by us. Round Island will not be held responsible for any breaches in copyright.

Can you produce showreels/duplicates that are compatible to play in other countries?
Yes. For the UK DVD's are burnt using PAL. Although many other countries use PAL if you want your DVD's to be compatible in the USA and some other countries you will need to let us know so that we can burn them in NTSC. There is no extra charge for this service.

What happens if I change my agent or contact details?
Simply call and let us know and we will update all of your footage and artwork. Then next time you order duplicates they will be fully up-to-date.

How long do duplicates take & what is the quality like?
Our duplication service is very efficient - we normally get your order out  within 48 hours. If however you need a priority same-day service let us know and we will do all we can to help. The service is not always available and a £7 priority charge applies. As for the quality of our duplicates - there is no reduction in quality - every duplicate is effectively a 'master' copy.

How can I pay?
We accept cash, cheque & bank transfer. For an additional charge of £1.50 we accept payment using credit or debit cards (Mastercard, Visa, Delta, Electron, American Express, Switch, Maestro, Solo) and PayPal.
